Victoria’s Benalla Performing Arts and Convention Centre (BPACC) is one of the region’s premium destination for theatre, performing arts, movies, convention and conference hire. The venue features a 344-seat tiered auditorium, three professional meeting rooms, and a cinema kiosk.

Lighting designer Tom Willis works closely with BPACC, supporting their touring shows and providing technical support. Recently the venue decided to update a large portion of their house lighting rig, replacing a number of ageing and deteriorating units with modern alternatives.

“They were in desperate need of an upgrade,” said Tom. “We recommended a number of LED alternatives for their lower ongoing running costs, output, safety, lower heat loading on the venue and the fact that you don’t have to replace lamps.”

Having recommended ShowPro LED products in the past, Tom had no hesitation in choosing twenty-four ShowPro LED fresnels with DMX zoom and ten ShowPro RGBWA Cyc units for the venue.

“The ShowPro fixtures have completely changed the amount of light, colour and vibrancy possible on that stage from what was previously there,” remarked Tom. “The new LED cyc units in particular are significantly brighter, replacing older incandescent units that drew heaps of power, took up a lot of bar space and gave inconsistent coverage of the cyc. The ShowPro Cycs are much more consistent and super bright. We’re finding that you only really need to run them at about 30-40% to get a strong coverage and colour.”

Tom further remarked that the ShowPro range of LED products were a good fit for the venue. “In a situation where you have a standard lighting rig with high usage hours, these fittings are perfect and produce great results. The venue and their clients are very happy with the outcome.”
