For a homeowner who can’t pay the electric bill, it means no lights and a stinky fridge.
But the worst-case scenario for an ice skating rink business that can’t afford electricity means no lights and a huge puddle of water.
Melbourne’s Icehouse is a new and exciting, world-class ice sports and entertainment venue. Proudly billed as the largest winter sport facility in the southern hemisphere, the Icehouse features two full-sized ice rinks suitable for ice hockey, curling, short-track speed skating, figure skating, and recreational skating
Fortunately it isn’t in danger of losing its power, but those scenarios paint a vivid picture of how important electricity is to a business that needs to chill its arena 24 hours a day and provide plenty of lighting.
Lightmoves supplied the feature lighting for the Bradbury Rink, the family friendly entertainment rink, partnering with Massteknik for the design and installation. Helping to keep electric costs down and the floor frozen, are ninety-six Pro Shop LED pinspots and seventy-two Pro Shop Pro Par LED 64 TriColour fixtures that provide wonderful colour-changing washes and set the eight Pro Shop mirror balls alive. With their extremely low power draw and cool running, the Pro Shop LED range of fixtures is the ideal choice for this chilly venue.
Ice rinks represent a unique environment where extreme cold, moisture and high pressure can play havoc with all things technical. The Martin SmartMAC with its famous reliability, sturdy build, low power requirements and silent operation is the perfect moving light for ice rinks.

Sixteen Martin smartMAC’s provide the bulk of the amazing and dynamic colour seen on the ice. Their extremely bright output deals with the rink’s high level of ambient light and glaring white ice. With their unique fanless cooling system and a 9000 hour lamp, service intervals are long meaning there’s no slippery changes!
The lighting is all controlled by a MA Lighting grandMA OnPC, located in the upstairs AV control room, which can also interface with the building’s Crestron lighting control and Medialon show control systems. This allows for simple control of programmed lighting scenes via ground level DJ’s or Rink staff from a portable Touchscreen.
