Genesis White coloured by Clay Paky
Sydney-based Newtone Entertainment has made a considerable investment in Clay Paky products with the purchase of sixteen Mythos and six Stormy CC.
“I bought the Clay Paky products because I knew they were the best,” admitted Matthew Newton, production manager at Newtone. “They have an incredible reputation for performance and reliability!”
The first major event the Clay Paky products were used on was Genesis White, a large dance party held at the Qantas Credit Union Arena. Rob Francis, production manager for Genesis Events, designed the lighting and was clearly delighted to have the new Clay Paky gear to play with – especially as he had Fusion Entertainment’s new Clay Paky Sharpys thrown into the mix!
Obviously the arena is very large and as well as lighting a stage 30 metres in width, Rob had to ensure the lighting in the venue looked big – whilst ensuring the gear fitted within the budget.
“That’s the hardest part – finding effective lighting within the budget,” he said. “Fortunately the multi-functional Mythos and the Sharpys were the main part of the production due to their strength and versatility. We decided to place them as high up and as far back as possible, as they have such a long throw and can light the entire venue.”
Rob was impressed by the compact Mythos and its’ comprehensive range of really effective functions. As a spot, Mythos has an outstanding large beam and zoom optimized for focusing; as a beam light it remains parallel for its entire length even at great distances. Mythos is smooth, fast and very quiet.
“The Mythos were great – super bright and consistent,” remarked Rob. “I really liked the different effects they could produce. With the Genesis White stage, I had them in bunches stage left and right separate from the Sharpys so as to not dominate them. The patterns, aerials and colour mix were really great.”
Rob frequently uses Sharpys, favouring their solid beams and reliability.
“The Sharpys always perform above and beyond our expectations,” he said. “Everyone loves the Sharpy for the bright beams but they are also fast, compact and always reliable. It’s a truly impressive light.”
Genesis White was the first time Rob had used the Stormy CC, placing them at the back of the stage.
“It was great to have a colour strobe without using scrollers,” Rob commented. “I used them mostly for stage colour and mood. I could get any colour I wanted and they were very intense.”
