Yet again, Paul Nardella of On Track Lighting popped into Show Technology’s Melbourne office on a whim and couldn’t resist snaffling our latest technology.
“I ended up leaving with 24 laser movers!” he said in bewilderment. “We got a last-minute outdoor gig for Adrian Portelli, and I knew our ShowPRO H1 Beam/Spot/Wash would do it, but Paul Nicolaou suggested I look at this product that no one’s brought yet. As usual, I bought them!”
The product was the ShowPRO Neptune BX, an IP-rated moving-head beam fixture powered by a laser light engine with a housing made of lightweight magnalium, enabling pan and tilt speeds that rival fixtures much smaller in size.
“We wanted a fixture that was IP-rated, as we do a lot of outdoors work, but it also had to be powerful and fast,” elaborated Paul.“
With a 100W white laser source, the Neptune BX can output over 50,000 lumens at a 0.7° beam angle. Its 24-bit dimming system ensures smooth control across the entire dynamic range.
The high-profile event in which the Neptune BX made their debut was Adrian Portelli’s Phillip Island raffle, a promotion by his company, LMCT+, to give away the five houses he purchased from The Block in 2024.
“Adrian wanted the whole of Phillip Island to see what’s going on, so we had to choose the right fixture that was going to cut through the night,” added Paul. “The 24 x Neptune BX delivered a powerful beam effect, and I think the whole island knew we were there! I was also surprised by their speed.”
A few days after this event, Paul used his Neptune BX at a Chemist Warehouse’s Iron Lion Kick Boxing event at the Pullman Hotel, Albert Park. The Neptune BX lit the particularly long fighter’s walkout to the ring.
Lighting boxing can be tricky, as broadcasters do not like haze. You need a fixture that will cut through as little haze as possible, and that’s precisely what the Neptune BX fixtures did.
The event allowed Paul to discover more about his Neptune BX, especially the six rotating textured glass gobos, which he describes as a ‘cool, psychedelic effect’, and he can’t wait to incorporate them into more events.
The Neptune BX also features 19 static gobos for beam shaping, the ability to layer 8- and 24-facet circular prisms, and a rotating textured frost, adding flexibility to every look.
