NS Audio Visual started in 2020 as NS Party Hire, kicking off with just one speaker, a smoke machine, and a party bar light – right in the middle of COVID-19. By 2022, they rebranded as NS Audio Visual, expanding their gear and services to take on bigger, more professional productions.
Today, NS Audio Visual delivers high-quality sound, lighting, and staging for events ranging from boat parties, weddings, and house parties to private bush doofs, renegade stages, large warehouse raves, and nightclubs. Their work also spans iconic Sydney venues, including The Metro Theatre, Civic Underground and Manning Bar. Beyond live events, they have installed sound and lighting systems across Sydney’s hospitality venues, from golf clubs to hotels.
Based in Lane Cove, Sydney, the company has expanded its lighting inventory over the past four years, most recently purchasing eight ShowPRO Cyber Beams.
“We needed something small and compact that complemented our existing inventory of static and other moving lights,” commented Toon Janssen, Managing Director of NS Audio Visual. “We had a smaller set of wash heads already, and for a while we were using Martin MH4 beam lights, which served us well but were showing their age.”
Toon wanted a fixture that would work out of the box and be far more efficient to pack, and he says that the Cyber Beams were an easy choice.
“Our friend Paul Nardella from On Track Lighting in Melbourne recommended them, and we haven’t looked back since,” he added. “They’ve been a great addition to our inventory.”
Toon said the best feature of the Cyber Beam is its compact size, which lets them use more of them than they otherwise could for certain installations. For example, if they want to make an intricate truss layout, they can place them in spots where other lights wouldn’t fit because of their size and weight.
“Beyond that, their output for the size is also just remarkable,” he said. “They are so punchy for how big they are. They’re insanely quick too, which is nice.”
The Cyber Beams have opened up a new range of dynamic effects for the company because, in the past, they were limited in pan and tilt speed. The Cyber Beams’ infinite pan and tilt gives them much more versatility and flexibility.
“The rotating prism is a nice feature to have. To be honest, for how good the beam itself is, having any other features on top was a big bonus. Even without the prism, it would still be absolutely worth the money. So yeah, it was definitely a no-brainer for us.”
NS Audio Visual’s Cyber Beams have become a mainstay at most large warehouse parties the company lights. Their largest outing to date was a progressive house event at Liberty Hall, where they formed a stage-floor package facing the audience. Toon said they delivered punchy beams over the crowd.
“They were of a size that made them suitable to be placed in front of the DJ, as opposed to something bigger that might be obscuring the view from where the audience would be seeing it,” remarked Toon.
Toon added that NS Audio Visual will add more Cyber Beams to its inventory soon. Stay tuned!
