The winter months have been busy for Creative Productions and with a hectic Spring looming, it was time to buy some more gear!

Having already invested in a wide range of lighting gear the past couple of years, Managing Director Dave Jackson decided it was time to up the ante with protection, after all safety is a priority when providing power to highly valuable equipment and even more valuable crew.

Dave had heard glowing reports on the StageSmarts gear and consequently smartPDU72s were purchased and delivered in time for Splendour in the Grass.

Engineered to meet the tough requirements of the events market, the smartPDU Series helps you to keep track of the situation at any moment, protecting your connected equipment and crew and, when needed, assisting you in diagnosing problems.

“I was impressed by the protection they offer and I also like the software monitoring,” commented Dave. “We’ve plenty of the other racks that do dimming and distros, and I didn’t see a need for building more of those because all I really just wanted was more protection.

“Splendour was great, really successful and the StageSmarts units really gave me piece of mind. They said it was the best they’ve ever had and we’re keen to keep improving. Next year it’s even bigger growing to 58,000 punters and a couple more stages.”

Dave also added more Ayrton Mistral-S to his inventory bringing their total to twenty-four and says he could happily buy another twenty-four!

“They’re becoming more and more requested on riders now, the Colourblind guys always want them,” he added. “They’re small, bright and light and we never have an issue with them. The animation wheel is great, the prism’s fantastic and they have a great selection of gobos.”

Martin ELP CL LED ellipsoid fixtures were next on the shopping list with Dave remarking on their brightness and feature set which includes 16-bit dimming with four selectable curves and 26 colour presets that match industry-standard colour filters. They can be configured with one of four Martin lens tubes in 19, 26, 36 and 50-degree beam angles and are compatible with third-party lens tubes along with a wide range of accessories including gel frames and gobos for flexibility in lighting design and inventory management.

“We required an RGB Profile so we looked at all the major brands available, testing the products side by side,” added Dave. “The Martin ELP was definitely the best and they’ve been great.”

And to top it all off, Dave couldn’t resist sneaking another MA Lighting NPU into his shopping trolley!
