Melbourne-based production company POWA covers almost every concert, corporate, event, and equipment hire facet. POWA has seen enormous growth over the past couple of years and has invested in plenty of top-notch gear.

Recently, POWA could not resist purchasing fifty of Claypaky’s groundbreaking multifunction hybrid luminaires: the Sharpy X Frame. The Sharpy X Frame is one of the most versatile, compact hybrid fixtures on the market. It addresses the needs for a bright spot, aerial effects unit, framing fixture, and everything in between in an affordable, compact package.

“The versatility of a hybrid fixture is great for fulfilling riders that come through,” commented Managing Director Geoff Knight. “Claypaky is famous for reliability, solid build, and world-leading performance, so that’s an important reassurance.”

POWA Lighting Technician Jason Henderson has used the Claypaky Sharpy X Frame on several events, most recently the Touch Bass dance party in Sydney and Melbourne. At the Sydney Touch Bass gig held at The Hordern Pavilion, the rig accommodated 24 Sharpy X Frame all on flown trusses, which looked phenomenal in that venue. Headliner Excision toured with his own LD, who designed the light show. Jason operated the support act for them.

“I just got handed the rig, and I’m like, sweet, Sharpy X Frame, great,” commented Jason. “I love the Sharpy X Frames; they’re so bright and punchy, and their zoom range is incredible.”

In March, POWA’s Sharpy X Frames were outstanding at the SummerSalt outdoor festivals, where Kait Hall designed the lighting. The fixtures were on ladder trusses on either side of the stage, overhead and the floor package.

“I did a lot of daytime performances at Summersalt, and the colours I got in the daylight from the Sharpy X Frames were incredible,” added Jason. “I  love their colours. I’ve spent time playing with them, and some softer colours are coming out, which are great.”

The Sharpy X Frame’s hybrid nature is a huge bonus to a production company such as POWA. Jason points out that they have been able to use them in places where they usually hang spots and beams; now, they only require one model.

“It means you can create a dynamic look with them,” he added. “The looks versatile too, going from a beamy number to zooming them back out to spots. That’s what I like about them because one number, you can be like, yeah, it’s heavy rock and roll with plenty of beams, and then the next act might be something soft where you can zoom them back out and do some nice gobo looks with them. They have a great Gobo wheel in them.”

With a zoom range from 3° to 52° (spot mode) and 2° to 29° (beam mode), the Sharpy X Frame can do unparalleled visual effects.

When describing the Sharpy X Frame’s light output, Jason couldn’t go past BRIGHT! He added that they shoot an excellent distance.

Jason reports that the Sharpy X Frame has been performing exceptionally well on the road with no issues.
