Mexicairns is a vibrant venue blending high-quality food, drinks, and entertainment. Located in the heart of Cairns, the venue offers a unique experience that combines delicious Mexican-inspired cuisine with interactive games and a lively atmosphere.
Guests can enjoy six game zones featuring augmented reality darts, bowling alleys, shuffleboard tables, ping-pong, beer pong, and pool tables. Comfortable seating areas, including daybeds, booths, and lounges, create a welcoming space to relax and enjoy the experience.
The venue’s audiovisual setup was supplied and installed by AVLX, a team of highly experienced audiovisual specialists providing system design, installation, integration, and maintenance on projects across Cairns and Far North Queensland.
Mexicairns promotes its Insta-worthy atmosphere, so its design is vibrant and colourful. To add the finishing touches of colour, light and movement to the venue, AVLX turned to Show Technology’s ShowPRO range.
To add colour-changing lighting to the venue, 30 ShowPRO Photon 80 compact RGB LED PARs were chosen. Utilising the latest in Chip On Board technology to project saturated perfectly mixed colours, the Photon 80 were the ideal choice.
“It was a mixture of budget versus output plus size, as all the ceilings are really low in there,” commented Andrew George, Director of AVLX. “We had to get something that was really compact but still had a bit of punch to it. The Photon 80s are placed throughout the venue. The magnetic lens lets you choose between narrow and wide beams, making it versatile as both an effect lamp and a soft-edge spot.
“They are surprisingly versatile lights, especially considering how simple and affordable they are.”
The image shows the nightclub area with Photon 80s on the left and right, and around the back, using the assorted lenses that come with the fixture to achieve different washes.
Also located in this area are four ShowPRO Pluto 800 wash moving heads to add movement to the mix. The Pluto 800 wash has an incredible zoom range of 4.5°-36°, creating tight beams or wide wash effects.
“Again, it came down to being compact,” added Andrew. “The Pluto 800s combine high output with low weight and are cost-effective. With a good zoom range and excellent optical quality, these lights function well as beam lights or flood larger areas with little throw, making them ideal for small spaces that need a wider beam angle.
“The ShowPRO range is a product line that I have confidence in, and that it’s going to be reliable. We’ve used ShowPRO products in the past and haven’t had many problems with them.”
The other image shows the main bar, which features an impressive atrium, made even more remarkable by four ShowPRO Pluto 600 Profiles illuminating the space with colour and sensational gobos.
The Pluto 600 features a framing system, a variable CTO, a colour wheel, static and rotating gobos, a prism, frost, an iris, and an animation wheel.
“We went with the bigger fixtures as they have to throw about 20 metres,” explained Andrew. “The colours are very vibrant, and they have a great selection of gobos. The zoom range is also excellent. Everything’s automated to do different states and looks through about three or four different times through the night.”
