Life Church’s North Campus, located on the North Shore of Auckland, recently underwent a building renovation, including a complete refit of its lighting setup, opting for a system comprising ShowPRO and Prolights luminaires.
Ruarangi Pewhairangi, North Production Assistant, commented that they knew the required lighting style, as it needed to match the fit-out in their central campus.
“We wanted further washes to do more colour effects, more chases, and just having more lights was useful to break them up into groups as well,” he said. “And then we needed some better profile lights because the ones we had were 15 years old.”
Four ShowPRO eProfile HPs were chosen simply because Central Campus has been using them since 2018, with Ruarangi commenting that they already have a good record with the fixtures.
He stated, “We have been satisfied with their performance, which led us to purchase additional units based on our positive experience. We also utilised them to replace our older conventional lighting with LED fixtures.”
Built to withstand the rigours of serious professional use, the ShowPRO eProfile HP features exceptional output and performance with a design that supports a wide range of industry-standard accessories.
Eight ShowPRO Fresnels were selected: six LED Fresnel 250 TW and two LED Fresnel 250 HEX. Ruarangi knew they needed Fresnels with a bit of oomph, as the throw to the stage would be longer after the renovations.
“We compared those when we did our demo against our current fixtures and noticed that they had quite a lot more throw,” he explained. “So, we went with them, and then we also wanted to experiment around with the tunable white to see what we could achieve with that. We’re very happy with the outcome.”
The ShowPRO R3 Wash is fast, lightweight, quiet and bright, so it’s no surprise that sixteen were added to the Church’s rig. The fixture’s ability to fill two roles was important.
“They are very versatile in terms of massive zoom range,” began Ruarangi. “The reason we got so many was so that we had the ability to break them up into groups. So, we could have some of them zoomed like a beam light and others as wash lights to wash the stage in colour or just wash whatever in colour. We’ve really enjoyed using them; having so many options gives us flexibility to achieve whatever effect we want—whether that’s something steamy with aerial effects or simply a clean wash of colour.
Adding even more firepower to the rig are six Prolights Astra Hybrid 330, whose extensive feature set includes aerial effects with a fat and parallel beam, crisp projection textures, and pattern effects.
“We use them in so many ways, and they are so bright, we actually have them mastered back a little, which is kind of what we wanted, having that extra headroom,” remarked Ruarangi. “We haven’t delved into all of the features yet, but I’m looking forward to using the animation wheel, the frost, and other creative aspects.”
The room is lit by sixteen ShowPRO LED Moonlite 150 HEX house lights, featuring a highly efficient optical system and HSIC colour-mixing system.
“The Moonlite fixtures offer high-intensity output, comprehensive DMX compatibility, and an extensive range of colour options,” said Ruarangi. “They add colour across the room and have been great. We’re very happy with those lights. They have good coverage, nice colours, and a flat surface as well, so you can’t see multiple modules.”
