Well, it’s not every day we get to highlight our products on an amenities block or to be more precise, a toilet block! But hey, what a great-looking toilet it is.
Located in Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall, illumination of the amenities block is part of an ongoing project between the mall owners and VAST-Vision and Sound Technology Pty Ltd to make the mall a more colourful and inviting night time environment.
The structure is cloaked in a wall of foliage and it was tasked to Cam Gunning of Vast to vertically light the greenery. Vast specializes in lighting built environments and is no stranger to Studio Due’s reputation for quality and reliability.
Consequently mounted on the top of the vertical planes pointing down the green wall are five Studio Due SlimBar Plus 100cm and a couple of Studio Due SlimBar Plus 50cm. These ultra-small form factor LED linear bars with IP67 rating protection are evenly spaced to provide a uniform wash.
“The project is part of the Brisbane City Council’s urban beautification programme using light,” commented Cam. “The lighting addition has transformed what is traditionally a drab object into something that enhances the space.”
While most of the time the Studio Due fixtures are programmed to green, they will change colour for special events.
“When the council is coordinating themed lighting for an event these fixtures will form part of a network around the city,” added Cam. “The fixtures can be remotely accessed to be included in any themed lighting event on the council’s program. What’s also great about the Studio Due SlimBar Plus, is that they really are an elegant, thin-line luminaire even with the onboard power supply built in. They meld into the structures architecture, remaining quite hidden to the eye.”
