Lighting designer Alex Berlage lit Sydney Theatre Company’s world premiere of Lethal Indifference with Intense Lighting’s new Martin Professional MAC Encore Performance CLD fixtures.
Alex commented that the MAC Encore was one of the quietest moving head profiles he had ever used and that he had never seen a Sound Department so excited about a moving light before!
Sydney Theatre Company’s production staff were so impressed with the fixtures they did a walk through with some of their more regular designers that were working in other venues at the time.
“A Sound Designer who was working on another production came into the theatre and joked that he was going straight to HR to get a clause written into his contract where the Lighting Designer is only allowed to use MAC Encores,” said Alex. “I wanted a fixture that had output, CMY colour mixing and shutters. The Mac Encore delivered on all fronts and provided the exact quality and control needed for this production.
“I would recommend them to any Lighting Designer working in opera or in smaller venues. The MAC Encore is a great fixture to get maximum versatility with minimum noise.”
Ian Garrard of Intense Lighting purchased the MAC Encores saying they were a natural progression from his aging MAC700’s, albeit a far superior product to the MAC700.
“We do a lot of orchestral and theatrical hires so it’s important that all of our stock is super quiet and the four-plane framing system is a must these days as well,” added Ian. “It’s a very impressive fixture and I know Martin have been working on it for five years so it’s quite refined compared to some of the other models out there. The on-board Tungsten and redshift emulations of the Encore are quite effective, especially when used in conjunction with the CMY system, and place the Encore in a field where it truly competes with the incandescent moving heads of yesteryear.”
Ian further remarked that he was excited to see that the MAC Encore Wash had been released and he is hoping to find a reason to purchase some in the near future!
