Sydney-based CVAV is known for its installation work, including bracket manufacturing and related rigging skills, and often works with other AV integrators that lack such specialist capabilities.
Although their permanent installation work accounts for 95% of their business, CVAV also has a small hire department that was recently upgraded with four Claypaky Mini-Bs, two ShowPRO Blinder II C, two ShowPRO UV Pars, and a ShowPRO Tracer follow spot.
“I have always liked the Claypaky product,” commented Carey Leghorn, Managing Director of CVAV. “We sold a bunch of Claypaky B-EYEs to a client a while back, and we always liked the look of them. We didn’t really have any moving wash fixtures, so I decided the Claypaky Mini Bs would be ideal for our production department.”
Lachlan, CVAV’s head tech, was impressed by the Mini-B, adding that he particularly likes its weight of only 7kg, which makes his job a lot easier!
“It’s a small, compact light, with really smooth and fast movement,” he said. “The 4°-54° zoom range is amazing; zooming down to 4° means you can do some really narrow effects when you use them upstage, which is how we used them on the gig in the photographs.”
Carey is pleased with the ShowPRO Blinder II C, which utilises both Warm White and RGBA modules. It boasts over 500W of power, 2,800K-10,000K tunable white, and full colour mixing capabilities in a blinder package.
“The colours are very nice on the Blinders, and I’d certainly buy more of them,” he remarked. “We rigged them upstage on this gig to use as traditional crowd blinders and then realised they’re a bit more capable than that with their colour mixing as well. So, we might use them differently next time.”
Carey further commented that the ShowPRO Tracer followspot is ideal for their work, and it certainly met expectations for its price point.
